Preventive dentistry to maintain your oral health

At Wickham Dental Carseldine we are big believers in the importance of preventive dentistry. Dental problems are usually easier (and less expensive) to treat in their early stages, rather than when they’re more advanced.

That’s why, whether it’s your first time with us or your regular 6 monthly check up, we cover all bases with a comprehensive dental exam.

As we first welcome you to our practice we’ll ask you to fill out some personal details and a medical history form. It’s important that we know about any medical conditions, medications, and allergies you have that may affect your dental treatment.

Because we care about your oral health, we are happy to begin by spending some time discussing your dental expectations, experiences, needs, and concerns.

What’s involved in a comprehensive dental exam at your Carseldine practice?

We’ll begin your comprehensive dental examination by noting any existing fillings, restorations, and missing teeth. We will then chart any plaque and carry out periodontal probing to determine the presence of periodontal disease.

Our team will look at your oral tissues, and perform a saliva check to ensure that there is no pathology. Finally we’ll examine all your teeth to ensure there is no decay, broken fillings or damaged teeth.

If you wear a dental prosthesis, please bring them along so that we can ensure that they are in good condition and functioning properly.

From this comprehensive dental examination we will provide you with a treatment plan, and offer you options to meet your needs, expectations and budget.

For all new patients, we will take x-rays to give us the complete picture of your teeth and mouth, so that we are properly informed before we begin.

We’ll finish your exam with a professional clean of your teeth, so that you can walk out with that dentist-clean feel in your mouth.

Things to remember to get the most from your dental examination

  • If you have dental insurance, please bring your insurance card with you.
  • Please bring a list of medications with you, especially if you can’t remember them all!
  • Please bring any X-rays that you may have from a previous dentist.
  • Get ready to ask any questions you’d like the answers to.
